Inspiration: Southwestern life.

I’m finally getting around to sharing my mini vacation in El Paso, TX. A visit to see the family shows me a different side of  life. Things are quiet and the pace of life is slow here. In the winter everything looks dead and barron. There seems to be a blanket of dust muffling this small cities landscape. I had a constant urge to use a giant water hose to spray over and replenish the dry and colorless trees and buildings.

A complete juxtapostion from my daily life in San Diego. I found myself somewhat cofused without my usual green palm trees, brightly colored landscape, ocean air, noisey traffic, and lively streets until I realized how peacefully calm I felt in this dry quietness. The rolling hills and mountain scape creates a serene peacefulness. The dry warm breeze is soothing.

I found myself enjoying how little grooming my body required in this climate. My skin felt nice and smooth, my face almost flawless from the aridness. Absolutely no need for a hair dryer, my hair was perfectly shiney and wavey in thirty minutes. The only neccessary pamper tool was a jar of my mom’s homemade cream lotion that I kept on me the entire mini vacation.

My mom took me on a little drive around town and was explaining to me how after living here for a while you really start to notice the subtle color variations in nature. This is where she finds the beauty. I looked around with the new eyes she had given me and could begin to see exactly what she was speaking of. The way certain bushes have a slightly more sage appearance then others, the way a small purple flower really pops against a grey leaf, how vibrant the red mountain dirt shows against brown stones and the olive green bushes. I love my mom for being someone who is able to appreciate the smallest and unobvious things in life. She really knows how to look deep for inspiration.

Of course, I, on the other hand, find my inspirations in more obviously blaring places. I admit, I am a sucker for bright colors. They just seem to awaken my soul! Here, I made my parents turn the car around after passing by a garden of brightly colored doors. How could I pass that up?!

And then there was a yard full of little surprises…

On our way home we actually ran into a TUMBLEWEED! How funny?!

ADIOS! Hope you enjoyed seeing my family as much as I did! Oh Yeah, and to leave you with one last inspiration…my brother had a light in his bedroom I just had to share. He took an old broken floor lamp from target and hung it upside down. Genius! I was trying to find a clever way to reuse those dang lights that break so easily and now I know. Never new my brother could be so eco-inventive!
